Who we are

Hope is not the end of the story. It's a beginning.

The After Project is a survivor-centered nonprofit dedicated to advocacy, education, awareness, and community support in the aftermath of sexual assault. We work to challenge stigma, make information more accessible, and foster compassionate communities where survivors are heard and respected.

We do not provide clinical care, legal representation, or emergency response services. Instead, we focus on education, public awareness, community connection, and helping people discover established support resources.

The After Project

Our story

Meet Our Founder

Lindsey Schiro Founder, The After Project

Lindsey Schiro, Founder of The After Project

Lindsey Schiro is a nonprofit founder, advocate, entrepreneur, and survivor of sexual assault who believes that what happens to someone should never define the rest of their story.

The After Project was born from something deeply personal: Lindsey's own experience navigating life after sexual assault. Through that experience, she came to understand how isolating the aftermath can be, how difficult it can feel to find your voice, and how often survivors are left searching for understanding, accountability, and support.

Rather than allowing those experiences to silence her, Lindsey made the decision to turn her pain into purpose.

She founded The After Project with a mission to challenge the stigma surrounding sexual assault, elevate survivors' voices, educate communities, and create meaningful opportunities for connection and change.

As a mother, business professional, and nonprofit leader, Lindsey understands that life does not stop after trauma. Responsibilities continue. Careers evolve. Families need us. And somewhere in the middle of it all, survivors are often left trying to understand how to move forward.

Through The After Project, Lindsey hopes to change the conversation surrounding sexual assault by shifting some of the focus toward what comes afterward: the healing, the challenges, the rebuilding, and the strength it takes to reclaim a future.

Her advocacy is rooted in a simple but powerful belief: survivors deserve more than acknowledgment of what happened to them. They deserve to be heard, believed, respected, and supported as they navigate what comes next.

The After Project is more than a nonprofit. It is a reminder that a person's story does not end with sexual assault.

There is life after.

Our focus

Turning empathy into impact.

Four connected areas of work, grounded in dignity, choice, and the belief that survivors deserve to be heard.

01 /

Advocacy

Elevating survivor voices, challenging harmful misconceptions, and advocating for more compassionate responses to sexual assault.

02 /

Education

Sharing accessible information that helps individuals and communities better understand sexual assault, trauma-informed responses, and survivor needs.

03 /

Awareness

Creating conversations and outreach that confront stigma, encourage prevention, and remind survivors that they are not alone.

04 /

Community Support

Fostering connection, solidarity, and opportunities for survivors and allies to build more supportive communities.

Our belief

What happened to you is not all there is to you.

Every voice matters. Every journey deserves compassion. Every after deserves possibility.
